The 2nd floor of The Copenhagen Main Library is closed from the 4th of November until the middle of 2020. In this period a new and improved children’s floor will be built in the library. In the meantime, you are welcome to visit the temporary children’s library on the ground floor. The new children’s floor will be renovated and the 1.000 m2 will be dedicated to a new children’s library with activities for children age 0-12 and their adults. The focus of the new children’s floor will be quality of life through literature and reading.

The new children’s floor is part of the strategy of The Copenhagen Public Libraries to increase its focus on children’s reading.

Temporary children’s library on the ground floor

Children’s items in Danish: Fairy tales - Horror – Crime fiction – Young Adult - Music (books) – Music (cd) - audiobooks cd/mp3 - Films (dvd/blu-ray) – Games for Playstation/Xbox/WII/PC – journals/magazines

What about the adults?

The adult visitors of the library will also experience some changes during the period of renovation. Events will be held at the central hall on the ground floor. Due to lack of space, certain books and other items will only be available as click and collect in the period of renovation. These includes:

Cd’s, films and non-fiction art, music and sport.

Reservations are to be collected on the 1st floor in the Information-area.

Due to renovation there is a risk of periods with increased noise. In these periods we recommend that the library’s visitors use our newly furnished 4th floor. Here you will find different types of seating – whether you need to lean back with a good book or need to work at a table.

The new children’s library is funded by Nordea-fonden.
