Interlibrary Loans

How to place loan holds and borrow interlibrary loans via Copenhagen Libraries.

An interlibrary loan is material that we obtain from a library outside of Copenhagen Libraries.

The Copenhagen Libraries emphasize that the ordering of materials to be obtained from other libraries in the country should be used with care.

We reserve the right to limit or prohibit access to interlibrary loans in specific cases where we assess that the number of orders assumes a disproportionately large scale.

Renewal of interlibrary loans:

  • You can only renew the loan if the library that owns the material accepts it
  • The renewal has to be on time before the return date
  • You can only renew for a maximum of 2 additional loan periods

Terms and conditions:

The library that owns the material may choose to recall it if the material is reserved by another borrower. If this happens, you will receive an email with a new due date.
An interlibrary loan borrowed from one of Copenhagen Libraries must always be returned to one of Copenhagen Libraries.

If the loan period for the materials you have borrowed is exceeded, you will be charged a fee. When renewing your books, there is always a risk that not everything can be renewed. If a loan is overdue, you will incur one fee on the renewal day and one or more fees when returning the loan that could not be renewed, unless you return the books that cannot be renewed on the same day you renew - and they have the same due date as the renewed one.

Interlibrary loans and absence periods:

You cannot pause interlibrary loans during holidays, so you may need to reorder materials after your holiday.
