Library App
How to use the library app as a patron of the Copenhagen Libraries.
Get started
- Download the 'Biblioteket' app, and log in with your patron information.
- If you are not registered as a patron, you can do so by clicking on "Create library user".
Search and place loan holds
In the app, you can search and get inspired with personalized suggestions for you.
- On the front page of the app under "Something for you," you can find inspiration based on what others have borrowed.
- You can also place loan holds directly in the app by pressing the reserve button.
Use the app as a library card
When you are logged into the app, you can use your phone as your borrower's card. For example, you can use it to log in to our lending machines or open the doors at some libraries if there is no staff present.
You can find the library card under "My Page" and by clicking on the "Library Card" button, a barcode will appear on the screen that you can use instead of your physical library card.
Notifications
- If you have subscribed to notifications from the library via email and SMS, you can find all your messages in the app. These include reminders and loan holds.
- You can find the settings under "My Page" and "Messages".
- You can get reminders for the final return date of materials and the collection date for loan holds in your own calendar on your phone. Just click the loan hold or the material you have borrowed and press "Send to Calendar".
Scan and borrow
How to use the scan and borrow feature:
- Press the "scan and borrow" function located in the middle of the app's bottom menu.
- Point the back of the phone towards the barcode of the book or material, similar to when you take a picture.
- The app will now guide you and notify you when the loan is correctly registered.
Technical prerequisites for scan and borrow:
- The feature only works with app version 3.3.0 and later.
- The app can only scan one chip at a time - composite materials cannot be borrowed via the app.
- The app only works from iPhone 7 (2015) and later.
- If using an Android phone, it requires a built-in RFID reader.
Pass the book on
If you're finished with a good reading experience, you can pass your book on to someone else without first returning it to the library.
The person you wish to give the book to just needs to scan the book themselves using the Scan and Borrow feature.
Afterwards, you will receive a return receipt by email, just as the person borrowing the book will receive a loan receipt by email.
Please note that this function does not work if there is a loan hold on the book. In such cases, the book must be returned to the library so it can then proceed to the next person in line.
Personalized recommendations
In version (3.4.0) of the app, you will start receiving personalized recommendations.
Initially, the app will need to get to know you, but as you continue to use the app and the library, it will get better at providing recommendations for you.
It is a beta feature, so we will continuously work on improving it.
If you opt-in for data collection in the app, personalized recommendations will begin to appear. We measure various actions, each with a different weighting. They are listed here, with number 1 having the highest weighting:
- Loan history / Loans - Biblioteket app + eReolen
- Reservations - Biblioteket app + eReolen
- Wish list - Biblioteket app + eReolen
- Try - eReolen
- Material viewing - Biblioteket app + eReolen
Based on this and what others have borrowed, we try to come up with suggestions for you.
The recommendations are displayed on the front page of, for example, the library app with the headline “Recommended for you”. Note, however, that a certain number of actions must have been taken (12 in total, where 2 minimum should be loans) to be presented with personalized recommendations.
Walkthrough of the app
If you want a walkthrough of the app, you can follow the library's course on the ekurser.nu page.
Pause your loan holds
In the app, under loan holds, you also have the option to pause your loan holds. This could be useful in cases such as vacations or if you receive too many books at once and can't manage to read them all.
- Under "My Loan Holds," press the three dots in the top right corner and choose how long you will be away.
- Remember to pause loan holds for a period of seven days before you actually need to use the pause.
Unfortunately, our system cannot stop the books in transit if they have already been retrieved for you, and sadly, this does not work with interlibrary loans.
Multiple users
You can log in with multiple users in the app and easily switch between them.
- Click on "My Page" in the bottom menu.
- At the top of the screen, click on your name, and a menu will appear where you can add or remove users.
- You can have up to ten users in the app.
- If a user changes their password, you will need to log in again.
