Protein folding (engelsk)

(2021)
Abstract: Protein folding is an important process by which a protein in its unfolded state spontaneously changes shape to form a stable three-dimensional conformation, termed its native or folded state.Protein folding is necessary for proper biological functioning of a protein. The function of a protein is determined by its three-dimensional structure.Loss of a protein's native structure through denaturation involves a simultaneous loss of the protein's function.Because protein folding is a balance between a large number of weak intraprotein and protein?solvent interactions, the process is strongly dependent on environmental conditions, including the solvent involved, salinity, temperature, and pressure.Misfolded proteins are known to be associated with various diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Down syndrome, Parkinson's disease, and cataracts
