Fees and Fines Learn about fines and fees for overdue materials. FinesThe Copenhagen Libraries issue a fine to the record of any borrower who fails to return library materials on or before their due date. Accumulated fines will result in the suspension of borrowing privileges. The fines apply regardless of the loan period. An overdue notice is sent to the patron 10 days past the return date. Items that are not returned within 31 days of the return date are considered lost. The Library issues an invoice to the patron, who must pay a replacement charge, as well as the late fine. If items are still outstanding 41 days past the return date, the library will issue a reminder. You will receive an invoice in eBoks, and you can see your status here:How do I pay a debt to the city of Copenhagen? Late returns for adults + 18 years: 1 - 7 days = 20 DKK 8 - 30 days = 120 DKK Over 30 days = 230 DKK Late returns for children 0 - 17 years: 1 - 7 days = 10 DKK 8 - 30 days = 55 DKK Over 30 days = 120 DKK Replacement ChargesWhen items are not returned or are returned in damaged conditions, patrons must pay a replacement charge corresponding to the cost of repair or purchase. The Library pays a special license fee to secure rights to lend certain material types such as videos, DVDs, CDs etc. The Library’s replacement cost for such items is therefore considerably higher than it would be for private individuals purchasing a new copy for personal use. Besides the replacement charge shown below, the patron must pay an additional DKK 90 to cover processing expenses. In the event that a new copy of the lost or damaged item is unavailable, the borrower is charged as follows: Replacement charges: Book = 255 DKK Comic book = 85 DKK Periodical issue = 85 DKK Playstation/CD/DVD = 665 DKK Bound volume of periodical issues = 750 DKK Sets not including CDs or DVDs = 560 DKK Sets including CDs or DVDs = 2.050 DKK Audiobooks on tape or CD = 210 DKK Audio CDs = 180 DKK Film = 460 DKK Other materials = 255 DKK Guidelines for Replacement If a library item is damaged, lost or not returned you are required to replace the item in accordance with the rates of The Copenhagen Libraries. When a return date is exceeded by 31 days the item will be considered lost and you will be charged with a replacement fee. You will also be charged with an additional fine for exceeding the loan period. If a part of a multi-volume work is lost and can only be replaced by purchasing all the volumes, the library may demand all volumes reacquired. Compensation payments and/or fines, not paid on that day, will be handed over to the municipal Finance Administration (Økonomiforvaltningen) for collection. If debtors do not respond or pay, the debt will be transferred to The Danish Debt Collection Agency(Gældsstyrelsen). Any consequent costs are to be paid by the patron/debtor. Replacement costs are non-refundable. Replacement copies of lost or damaged materials cannot be submitted.
